Understanding what a web site visitor thinks and does can greatly help your chances of achieving success on the internet. If you don't really understand what your visitor is thinking and doing how can you ever improve on your web site and its process.

Jakob Nielson is the author of 50 Web Sites Deconstructed. He has studied web sites, broke them down, found out what makes them tick, and then reported it all back to us. In his studies he concluded that the average internet marketing web site visitor does not read while online, they only scan material.

The average web site visitor does not read online material the same as printed material. When visitors where asked to check out a site a surprising 79% skimmed over the page while only 16% read the page in it's entirety. This study shows exactly why it is so important to grab the readers attention and have your internet marketing site formatted properly.
Jakob Nielson concluded that you have about 20 - 30 seconds to get your readers attention before they leave your page. Many others have said that you have only 10 seconds. Either way this shows the importance of a good headline and sub headline.

Web site visitors are looking for information and they want to find it fast. They will not second guess leaving your site or sales page when there are hundreds of other results to go though. You and your site have to be one of the most attractive fish in the sea or you will simply get passed over in a heart beat.

One of the most important things you can do is capture your readers attention and then capture their name and email address. This is a very critical step and many site owners overlook this fact and pay for it dearly. Recycled visitors are your best resource. You don't have to pay for them and they are already interested in your site so they are more likely to buy.

You want to get your most important and attractive content and material on the first fold. For those who do not know, this is the part of you site that is seen when it is first loaded. Keep in mind that not everybody uses a big monitor or resolution. Your best bet is to drop yours down to at least 800 x 600 and then view your site. This is what you have to focus on the most since it is what is seen first.

In this first fold is your headline and it is quite simply the most important part of the page. It is easy to see and is the one thing that is almost always read. Make sure your headline grabs your visitors eyeballs either with curiosity or emotion. If at all possible try using the word you in your headline as it makes your page more personal.

The second most seen and important part of your page is the post script. The reason why most visitors will immediately jump to the bottom of your page because it is easy and where most order buttons are found. Make sure that all your P. S.'s state what your product has to offer the visitor and a call to action. If at all possible try to summarize your products benefits in the post script of you sales page.

People will generally not believe anything at first unless you are a trusted and reliable source. Try and fill your sales page with some facts, statistics and accurate information. Most visitors are sick and tired of all the hype and will quickly close your page if they sense to much of it. Don't use approximations, tell your visitors exact figures. Instead of "How I Made $5000 In One Week" use exact figures like this "How I Made $4957 In One Week". It looks a lot more believable and will build credibility.

Towards the end of your sales page you must also have a call to action. You have to tell your visitor what you want them to do. People usually need to be told to click the order button to get a reaction out of them. If you fail to do this part many of your visitors will fail to buy as well.

Make it as easy as possible for your visitor to buy your product. There are allot of people out there that simply don't have a clue or are afraid to order online. Make the process as easy as possible for the visitor and you will surely see a small increase in sales. No body likes to be confused and this will quickly turn your customer off.

Another thing you will have to do is Keep It Simple Stupid. Don't get off the topic or put any bumps in the road. Your sales page is the last place you want to put your AdSense ads. Selling your product will make you more than a click on your AdSense ads. They are to big of a distraction and that is exactly what you don't want. Your sales page should be like a slip and slide leading directly to the order button.

Your page should have a single centralized focus on your product and a smooth sequence. Your page should exist to only sell your product. This is no place to talk about your children, your latest vacation, or anything else unless it is directly related to the product or tells the story of how you came about making the product. Everything else is just another distraction to your visitor if you want to talk about that kind of stuff start a blog.

Now that you know what the average Internet marketing web page visitor does you should be well on your way to improving your site and your conversion. Just keep testing and tweaking and you will surely reach your products and your internet marketing goals.

Customer Testimonial
I found working with Terry at GuruOfInfo.com to be one of the easiest parts of setting up my campaign. He responded quickly to my concerns, offered insightful suggestions and put together a great site for my 2008 campaign for 91st District Court Judge. Terry is one of those few designers that listens to what you want and actually gets it right in the design.

The site Terry designed is user friendly and also recieves great rankings for my specific search terms. His prices are reasonable and worth every penny. It was a pleasure working with him and I will continue to in the future!
